There's typically more than one person involved in building a traditional magazine, at last check. It only makes sense, then, that Flipboard just opened up its internet-based magazine curation to groups. Those who've built a magazine can now invite friends to add content at will, whether it's through one of the mobile apps or a web bookmarklet. We doubt that the resulting collaborations will give big league publishers a reason to panic, but Android and iOS users alike can test that theory by downloading the updated Flipboard today.

Time Warner Cable launching TWC TV app for Samsung Smart TVs (video) HD
As commonplace as Time Warner Cable's TWC TV app might be, it's surprisingly tricky to find on actual TVs -- Roku boxes don't quite count. The provider is addressing that gap today with plans to release a version for Samsung's Smart TVs. The new app (not yet pictured here) offers authentication-based access to about 5,000 on-demand shows without any extra hardware. This isn't a true replacement for a cable box, however -- along with the usual subscription requirement, there's no mention of the live TV that we've seen elsewhere. Those who aren't deterred by the restrictions can load TWC TV on their 2012-era Smart TVs soon, and 2013 sets sometime after that.

Mario Kart 8 launching on Wii U in spring 2014
At Nintendo's E3 presentation that's not actually happening at E3, we've heard the next installment of the Mario Kart series is coming to the Wii Usometime in spring 2014. Mario Kart 8 doesn't stray too far from what fans expect of the casual racer, but there are a few new twists. Courses now have 3D aspects to them, allowing you to "defy gravity, racing up vertical walls and upside down." We'll continue to update this as we get more details, but there's some eye-candy below in the meantime.
